Directions Walchensee – Herzogstand – Heimgarten Hiking Tour

Parking at the Walchensee near the Herzogstandbahn (2019: 4 Euro). Follow the direction signs H5 to Heimgarten. First through the resort of Walchensee, you quickly enter the forest along a creek. Here now it goes a while over many, many steps and roots uphill. After about 1.5-2 hours you reach an alp in a saddle after a short stretch downhill. Do NOT shortcut here, the paths end in nowhere. The path to Heimgarten is clearly visible and signposted and leads uphill for about an hour. Rest at the mountain top at the Heimgarten hut.

Finally follow the ridge path to the right in the direction of Herzogstand. The trail is well constructed and insured, but you should still be sure-footed and free of vertigo. After about 2 hours you reach the Herzogstand Pavilion (summit). Downhill the only way to the Herzogstand hut. A few meters after the hut, a path goes down on the right hand side. It leads directly (approx. 2 hours) to the parking area of the Herzogstand cable railway, the starting point of this hike.
